What happened during the training session today? Please elaborate.
What new skill did I learn today?
How will this training session help me in the Gift Of Sight Programme?
How can I apply what I have learn today?
During the training,we learnt how to use various items. Like the Snellen Chart. We also learn about different stations and how the trip would teach us about Values. We learnt how the measure the degree of a spectacle using the machine.I learnt that kindness is a must to do in life. We can apply the values in life.

Seems like i'm the second one to comment. I want a prize...... Anyways,in 2010 I have already been to Vietnam also for a Gift Of Sight program with the school, so i'm very lucky to get chosen for another trip.I can't say much about our first training because I have been through the same thing more then six times(I demand another prize). Whats new was that this time we didn't have to change the direction of reading the Snellen chart when switching eyes to read. That's all folks.
ReplyDelete-Sen Ree.....wants his prizes before or during the trip.
Via this training, I was able to recall what I have learnt 2 years ago during my 1st Service Learning in Vietnam. With this skills that I have learnt,I can use it to help the unfortunate.

During the training, we learnt how to use the snellen chart. We learnt the things that we are going to do at each of the stations. I learnt how to measure the glasses, degree. This training helps me to understand what i am going to do there. I learnt that we must appreciate the things we have. Not everyone is as lucky as we are. We must learnt to value our lifes.

1st briefing:
ReplyDeleteThe Gift Of Sigh Programme, also known as GOS, is to allow us to serve and learn. The place we will be going to is Korat, short for Nakhon Ratchasima. (where is korat: 130km away from Bangkok. 3 hr bus ride.)This is why did we choose to go to Korat, it is to help out with their work and to provide spectacles for the needy there. ( which explains the name, Gift Of Sight Programme.) People in Singapore are too privelage to not know that spectacles are hard to come by in poorer countries. Many people, both old and young, have lived with poo visions for a long time and they just live with it wthout complaining. For tis trip, we will be bringing spectacles, donated by our students and teachers, to give it to those who need them more than we do.
Briefing 2:
During the 2nd training, we had experts teaching us on how to use the machines (lens meter) that are used to test the degree of our spectacles. We were briefed on the purpose of this 'mission' and how important this project is. 5 stations will be set up and students will be placed at each station.
Staion 1: Registration.
Station 2- VA chart test ( far and near) Here, we will be using snellen charts to test the 'patients' eyesight to determine how weakt their eyes are, and to roughly gage to degree of their eyesight.
Station 3- Optometrists. This is where expert work come in. The optometrist will use machines to test the degree of the 'patients' eyes and to provide them with the approprite spectacles.
Station 4- Spectacles retrieval. Spectacles will be given ou here. As we may not be able to provide them with the spectacles' degree to be exactly the same as their eyes, we will give them the glasses with drgree nearest to their eyes.
Station 5- Spectacles dispensing.

That's cool! That's quite a handful of things that you have learnt. Terence, you will need to be more specific...like what kind of values are we talking about here? How about our school's values of RICPF? I would like to hear you talking more of that during the trip....for now stay cool about the trip!
