Pre-Trip Reflection

Hey guys,

We are merely one day away from our trip! Hope you're all getting excited already!!
However, before we leave, there are a couple of questions I would like you to reflect and comment on:
  • What are some of your perceptions or beliefs about the community you will be serving?
  • What fear, if any, do you have about working in the community?
  • Why do you think you are needed for this trip?
  • What do you hope to gain from this experience?

  1. I think that the people that we are helping, are people who not only have difficulty in sight but also not being able to afford proper eye wear. Instead of having fear, i feel excited and anticipated to interact with the people who is brought up in different culture and language. I believe that its is our responsibility that we should help people who are in need. We should spread our love to them, and show them that even though they are less fortunate then us, there are still people around the world caring for them. I hope to gain exposure from this trip, as i haven been to many countries. In addition, i hope that this would be a stepping stone for me in terms of reaching out to people who are in need.

  2. WeiKai;

    I think we will be helping and serving people there who has a financial crisis who are not able to get a spectacles. Not much of a fear but more of excitements and urge to help the people there. We are needed to allow them feel that it's like a voluntary work than a pay or to gaining stuff kind of a thing. I hope to learn more about people who stays there, like example the surroundings they stay in and what kind of problems they face there .

I hope to be able to learn more about their living style and reflect on my on actions and behavior i have in singapore. Compared to the people there, i think that we have more than we need and its time to give a helping hand to others and le ohters feel the same bliss as us..

  4. I think the people that we will be serving are financially unstable . I also think that the community will consist of not only children but also adults and grandparents . The fear i have is that we will have a hard time communicating with them as we do not know their language . I am nt sure why i as chosen but i know that there is a reason . I would like to now their culture there and also there types of food . Throught this experience , i hope that i can apply the knowledge i get from this trip to my everyday life . I also hope that i can bond more with the other students from the different UG .

  5. I think that the community I would be serving would be financially unstable or are unable to afford certain things. I also believe that the community we would be serving have sight problems. I don't have any fears but I do worry about the way we would communicate with them. It would be very hard for them to understand us and for us to understand them if we don't know their language. I'm not sure why I'm needed for this trip but I believe that I can help the people there since my teacher choose me. I hope that I can gain more knowledge, skills and friends at the end of this trip and apply it to my everyday life.
